A dozen students enrolled in Career & Technical Education programs at the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy in Angola have been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society, which recognizes outstanding student achievement among career and technical education students throughout the U.S. The inductees represent seven school districts in southern Erie and northern Chautauqua County.

A ceremony was held May 27 to honor the 12 inductees, as well as the 13 current NTHS members, before an audience of parents, teachers, staff, and administrators. To qualify for the NTHS, candidates had to maintain a grade point average of at least 90 and demonstrate scholastic achievement in their career and technical education programs. They also had to have five or fewer absences during the school year.

“It’s one of the highest achievements possible for students enrolled in career and technical education programs. These students, as well as their families and teachers, should be proud of their accomplishment,” said Susan Gaeta, E2CCB academic liaison and NTHS advisor at the Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy.

Many of the 13 current members of the NTHS, who were inducted last year, participated in the candlelight ceremony that represents the goals of the NTHS and its seven attributes of membership – knowledge, leadership, service, honesty, scholarship, skill, citizenship and responsibility, each of which is represented by a candle.

Jeff Cervoni, E2CCB supervisor at the Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy, along with Dr. Paul Connelly, E2CCB assistant superintendent for management services, congratulated each inductee during the ceremony for their success.

“All of us here at the Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy are extremely proud of our National Technical Honor Society inductees. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work as well as the terrific support of the faculty and staff here,” Cervoni said.

Each of the students attends Career & Technical Education classes in various fields at the Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy for part of the day with the cooperation of their home school districts.
