E2CCB is implementing New York’s new “Distraction-Free Schools” law, limiting student use of internet-enabled devices during the school day beginning in 2025–26.
Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CCB) will implement a new policy restricting student use of internet-enabled devices—such as smartphones and smartwatches—during the school day, in alignment with New York State’s new “Distraction-Free Schools” law. The policy, developed with input from families, staff, and students, aims to support focused learning and student well-being. While devices must be stored in designated areas during the school day, exceptions are allowed for educational, medical, emergency, and accessibility needs. Families will continue to have multiple ways to contact students during school hours.
