At the LoGuidice Educational Center, the aroma of freshly baked cookies recently filled the kitchen as juniors enrolled in the Culinary Arts program got to work for a sweet cause.
Erie 2–Chautauqua–Cattaraugus BOCES is once again partnering with the Empty Bowls Project, giving Career & Technical Education students hands-on opportunities to support local hunger-relief efforts.
Over several mornings, students prepared and baked 200 chocolate chip, 200 peanut butter, and 200 snickerdoodle cookies for the fundraiser, set for Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Wheelock School gymnasium in Fredonia. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Under the guidance of Chef David Caccamise, who has volunteered with the Empty Bowls Project for more than 15 years, the students contributed baked goods for the second consecutive year. In past years, Caccamise and his students showcased their culinary skills by preparing soups for attendees.
Proceeds from the event benefit FeedMore WNY and are distributed to food pantries throughout Chautauqua County. Another Empty Bowls event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown.
