CTE Students At Carrier Inducted Into NTHS Chapter

Thirteen students from the Carrier Educational Center were recently inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. The ceremony took place Nov. 21 at Lake Shore High School with family and friends present.

“Tonight is a recognition of extraordinary achievement that demonstrates commitment, dedication, and perseverance,” said Nicole Kaleta, NTHS co-advisor at Carrier. “A couple of years ago, this group of young adults decided to take a different path, the Career & Technical Education path. Perhaps it was to pursue a dream of being a chef, or a desire to work in the computer industry. Regardless of the career path, each of the students embraced Career & Technical Education. The results are here for all to see tonight.

The new inductees, listed by CTE program, include Culinary Arts, Jesse Bomberry, Yanieliz Lozada, and Xavier Myers of Silver Creek, Liam Cosandier and Keira Kaufman of North Collins, and Shaun Serio of Lake Shore; Cosmetology, Keira Fox and Emily Poulson of Lake Shore; HVAC, Anna Miller of Lake Shore and Gary Dudek of Silver Creek; Information Technology/Computer Systems, Christopher Knight of Lake Shore; and Small Animal Science, Mattison Larson of Silver Creek and Stevieana Seneca of Lake Shore.

Kaleta said the 13 inductees have “excelled at their craft” while enrolled at the Carrier Educational Center and have bright futures ahead.

“Induction into the National Technical Honor Society will follow each student for the rest of their careers,” she said.

The ceremony included the installation of officers and the lighting of candles representing the attributes of an NTHS member: Knowledge, Skill, Honesty, Service, Responsibility, Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership.

Leo Fial, director of P-TECH, CTE & Program Innovation at Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, was the ceremony’s guest speaker.

“The skills and knowledge you have gained will serve as the foundation upon which you will build your future,” Fial said. “As you move forward in your education and professional paths, I encourage you to remember the importance of pursuing your passions wholeheartedly.”

Jessica Sullivan, Carrier Educational Center principal, concluded the ceremony with comments directed toward the students on stage.

“This is an honor that you will be able to carry with you throughout your education and your career,” she said.
