‘Significant Milestone’: CAM P-TECH Holds Pathway Signing Ceremony

Eight students entering their second year at CAM P-TECH in Springville put pen to paper in choosing how they will further focus their academic studies and possibly future careers.

During a signing ceremony held on July 30, and with friends and family present, students committed to one of two available pathways: Electrical Construction and Maintenance Electrician or Information Technology.

The P-TECH programs at Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES offer students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an associate’s degree over five or six years of study.

CAM P-TECH Principal Heather Banks said the signing ceremony represented a “significant milestone” for students in their educational journey.

“We are incredibly proud of you and cannot wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish,” she said.

Students who successfully complete the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Electrician pathway at CAM P-TECH receive an associate’s degree from Alfred State College.

Nancy Driscoll, academic support assistant for the college’s School of Applied Technology, told students they were “at the beginning of something amazing” by committing to a pathway through P-TECH.

“Your ascent begins now. I know you have worked hard to get here,” Driscoll said. “Your family is proud of you, and we join their high hopes for your future. Even if you’re feeling a little nervous, uncertain, or fearful, know this: We’ve got you.”

Driscoll reminded students to learn something new every day and to try new things as they further their education. She also acknowledged that they may make mistakes along the way.

“There will be success, too, and times to cheer for yourself and times to cheer on a fellow classmate,” she said. “It is all part of the cycle of learning.”

Following comments from Banks and Driscoll, CAM P-TECH Counselor Tony Visco called up each student to officially sign their chosen pathway.

The following students have elected to pursue the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Electrician pathway: Landyn Barrett of Gowanda, Luke Bowman of Springville, Lucy Brehm of Pine Valley, Sullivan Griffith of Gowanda, and Russell Laurito of Springville.

The following students have elected to pursue the Information Technology pathway: Conner Mangan and Michael Mills of Springville, and Bentley Turner of Gowanda.
