Wellness Day Promotes Health and Self-Care at LoGuidice

On March 27, the LoGuidice Educational Center hosted its annual Spring Wellness Day, providing Career & Technical Education students with an opportunity to focus on their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

The event featured a variety of interactive workshops designed to promote self-care, relaxation, and healthy habits. Students through Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES were able to select their top three sessions, creating personalized schedules tailored to their interests and needs.

This year’s Wellness Day was made possible through the support of the E2CCB Wellness Committee, along with community sponsors including the Kosciuszko Polish Home, Moniuszko Social Club, and Dunkirk Lakeside Club.

A number of staff members, community leaders, and students contributed to the day’s success by leading workshops. Activities included POUND fitness sessions led by Alicia Eckstrom; arts, crafts, and journaling with Molly Corsi-Katta and Kelp Porpiglia; and a SPA Day organized by Lori Sam, Hogla Carreras, and student volunteers.

Additional sessions featured essential oils education with Melissa Seelbinder and students, a Tea Time and Nature Walk led by Ericka Tenpas and Jacquie Pagano, and a Just Dance session facilitated by Cleon Clayton with student volunteers Brooke Proper and Olivia Shephard. Jen Grimm also assisted with supervision and coordinating student participation.

“There are so many moving parts to pull this event together smoothly, and I couldn’t do it without people stepping up to lead workshops and the generous contributions of local clubs providing supplies,” said Alycia Lacki, a school counselor at LoGuidice.

Lacki noted that the event holds special meaning as it gives students the chance to engage in activities that support their well-being in a personalized way.

“Students get to register for their top three workshops, and I create a personalized schedule for each of them,” she said. “Hearing their feedback afterward – comments like ‘this helped me during a tough time’ or ‘I’ll use these strategies in the future’ or ‘I really needed this’ — reminds me why we do it.”
