WNY P-TECH celebrated the induction of five outstanding students into its chapter of the National Honor Society during a special ceremony recognizing excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The May 6 ceremony was led by National Honor Society President Myah Benjamin, who welcomed families, faculty, and guests as the newest members were formally inducted.
This year’s inductees included Audiyanna Cheverez of Dunkirk in the Mechatronics pathway, Leona Henhawk of Gowanda in Welding Technology, Rogan Kelley of Westfield in Computer-Aided Design, Tyrick Nadi of Southwestern in Welding, and Benjamin O’Dell of Silver Creek in Mechatronics.
New this year, parents took part in the event by helping place NHS pins on each student.
Guest speaker William Rivera, a graduate of WNY P-TECH Cohort 5 who now works at Ring Precision in Jamestown, encouraged students to embrace challenges and learn from setbacks as they pursue their goals.
“One of the main reasons you’re here today is because of those struggling times,” Rivera told the inductees. “Failure and success are a package deal.”
Rivera reflected on his own journey after graduating from WNY P-TECH and reminded students that hurdles should be viewed as opportunities for growth rather than reasons to quit.
“If you have a goal for yourself, if every fiber of your being tells you this is what you want to do and who you want to be, then do it,” Rivera said. “Put your heart and soul into accomplishing that goal.”
He also encouraged students to believe in themselves and lean on their support systems.
“If you don’t believe in yourself, look around,” Rivera said. “Your friends, family, and teachers believe in you. I believe in you.”
WNY P-TECH Principal Jeffrey Teluk congratulated students on earning membership in the prestigious organization, recognizing their accomplishments both inside and outside the classroom.
“Today serves as a formal acknowledgment of your achievements in scholarship, leadership, community service, and character,” Teluk said. “You’ve earned the privilege of becoming part of the National Honor Society.”
He also thanked families, faculty, and staff for supporting students throughout their educational journeys.
The ceremony also included the official National Honor Society pledge and a celebration with family members and guests.
