Juniors and seniors enrolled in Culinary Arts at the Ormsby Educational Center baked and decorated cupcakes for Pet Connection Programs Inc. of East Aurora. The nonprofit pet shelter organization recently held a community fundraiser in which the desserts were a big hit.
The chocolate- and vanilla-flavored cupcakes were made by Career & Technical Education students under the guidance of chefs Gregory Babcock and Andrew Suffoletto and student teacher Paige Berhardt. Each treat was also topped with an iced sugar cookie shaped like an animal.
The cupcakes were picked up ahead of the April 5 fundraiser by Julie Garvey, president of Pet Connection Programs.
About 20 years ago, Garvey’s son, Brendan, was a student in the Culinary Arts program.
“Since then, he has become a very successful chef and has traveled all over the country working at different resorts and restaurants,” Garvey said.
According to its website, Pet Connection Programs was founded in 1984 and has “saved thousands of animals that had no place else to go since then.”
The organization said all money brought in through fundraising efforts goes to its shelter animals and programs.
